Safeguarding

I have a profound commitment to protecting students and other community members by promoting wellbeing while adhering to professional standards. Furthermore, my recent professional learning and training in this area has included the following:

I have been actively involved in multiple organizational overhauls of safeguarding practices. Specifically, as a member of the SAISA Safeguarding Task Force, I collaborated with the team to create the SAISA Child Protection Handbook. Additionally, I was one of the two initial Lead Safeguarding Officers for SAISA. I am a member of AISC’s Safeguarding Council, tasked with documenting and updating the school’s practices

In addition to a commitment to child safeguarding, I have had extensive first aid training, including:

  • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers American Red Cross
  • Lifeguard American Red Cross
  • Firefighter I Alaska Fire Standards Council
  • Wilderness First Responder Wilderness Medical Associates
  • (This is not a comprehensive list, and not all are currently valid.)
Firefigters in bunker gear and helmets remove the top of a white car as practice for an extrication of an injured occupant.

My wife and I have adopted two children and as part of that process had two home studies completed. Included in that process were FBI, police clearance reports, and child abuse registry checks for countries and US states we have lived in. All are available on request.

A related endeavor of mine has been employee safety during disasters. You can read about my work on keeping staff prepared for unexpected situations here.
